Christo Luüs is a Fellow of SAIFM and holds a BComm (Hons) Econometrics from UJ (former RAU), as well as an MBL – Business and Investment from Unisa.
Christo started his career as an economist with the United Building Society (later ABSA Group) where he was promoted to senior economist and then to chief economist within a relatively short period of time. At Absa, he served on the Group Strategy and Group Operational Committees.
In July 2007, Christo left Absa to start his own economic consultancy, Ecoquant (Pty) Ltd, in association with Quantec Research.
In 2008, Christo was named Beeld/Sake24’s Economist of the year.
In 2009, Christo joined the advisory committee of Third Circle Asset Management.
In addition to serving as current chairman of SAIFM, Christo has served as chairman of the Greater Johannesburg Business Chamber and represented his employer in various other business forums, such as SACOB and BUSA. He was the chairman of the Economic Statistics Committee of the Statistics SA Council (appointed by the Minister of Finance) and a member of the Central Council of the Economic Society of SA.
Christo has had many economics articles published throughout his career and has appeared on CNN and other television and radio news stations.
