Eugene was a member of Barclays Africa CIB Executive Committee as Chief Innovation officer and Chief Risk officer .
His main pursuit has been the building of virtual distributed banking platform to create financial inclusion and fairer financial eco-system.
Eugene led innovation within the bank with a focus on adjacent business opportunities. He was also responsible for driving the organizational mindset and culture on innovation. The role included a “Seeker fund” for the Barclays Africa group with a mandate to make investments in adjacent and disruptive businesses and co-develop the opportunities within these independent investments. Through these investments, he helped engineer numerous business models from alternative energy to identity management and peer to peer finance.
Eugene has advised numerous SA corporates on digital ecosystems, technical design, Commercial model development and partner ecosystem selection.
He is currently CEO of The Cape Town Stock Exchange and has found his home there building the Investment bank of the future.
He has held numerous Non-executive positions including the Chairmanship of financially regulated peer to peer lender
In his personal capacity he is Chair and co-owner of Ballistic bike trading which distributes and manufactures cycling and digital sports equipment in sub- Saharan Africa.
He has undertaken numerous speaking responsibilities globally on disruptive business approaches, innovation and risk management.
He is attracted to scale businesses in terms of client, technology and reach to which I can bring a wealth of management expertise.
In his spare time, he is an avid fly fisherman and cyclist. This tends to calm him down from intense consideration of the impact of exponential technology on life as we know it!
